Newsflash! Lady Godiva Gets Dressed!
After 900 years of horseriding naked through the streets of Coventry, Lady Godiva is at last going to get dressed!
Fashion designer Gillian Wesley has taken on the challenge to design a
corset for the famous statue in a bid to promote a breast cancer charity event to be held at the Canal Basin in Coventry later this year.
Organiser Emma O'Brien, owner of The Lock Gallery in Coventry, is planning a catwalk show of
innovative corsets which will be auctioned later at the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Emma explained "After deciding to put a corset on the Lady Godiva statue to promote the basques for breast cancer event, I needed a great designer that would be able to produce a visually stunning creation fit for our city's centre piece!
Gillian Wesley was recommended to me by a couple of people, and after looking at her work, I knew she was the one to do it! Professional, creative and ambitious.....the perfect combination!"
The event is to be held on Sunday 16th August at 12pm
at the citys' canal basin.
