In 2010 it will be 60 years since the Leamington and district Ladies Circle was founded. To mark the ocassion we are organising a charity evening event on 12th March for members old and new to celebrate by raising funds for Breat Cancer Care (through Warwick Hospital)
To make a point we would like to decorate the room with a festoon of bras. This is a serious request!If anyone has a bra they have outgrown, never used,or tired of it before it has worn out, but in nice clean wearable condition and would like to donate it - we would be very grateful to hear from you.Maybe you would like to purchase a new bra to donate to this cause? Style , size, colour immaterial-nursing bras,sleep bras, wonder bras,sports bras, teenage bras...all would be equally useful.
Once the bras have been used as decoration, they will be forwarded to a charity which sends them to Africa-where older girls are not encouraged to take up senior school places unless they are "properly dressed" ie with a bra. A certain amount of it is status, a certain amount dignity, but bearing in mind how expensive a bra is here, think about what a hurdle it is if you are releasing a member of the family from earning a wage AND finding the fee for the school, and then having to find money for an expensive,hard to find item of clothing........
